Our Pod Structure
We believe every child deserves to learn at their own pace in an environment where they feel confident, capable, and supported.
Seed Pod
Seed Pod is designed for early readers who are beginning to build foundational literacy skills.
Children in this pod focus on developing a strong understanding of letter sounds, recognizing simple phonetic words, and beginning to blend sounds together. Through hands-on, Montessori materials and guided practice, children build confidence as they start to make sense of written language.
This stage is all about creating a positive, successful first experience with letters and reading, where children feel capable, supported, and ready to grow.
Growth Pod
Growth Pod supports children who are ready to move beyond early reading and develop greater fluency and independence.
In this pod, children work on blending longer words, recognizing common spelling patterns, and improving reading flow. Lessons are designed to strengthen accuracy while helping children read with more ease and confidence.
With consistent practice and small-group support, children begin to see themselves as capable readers and take more ownership of their learning.
Bloom Pod
Bloom Pod is designed for developing readers who are ready to refine their skills and read with greater confidence and understanding.
Children focus on more advanced spelling patterns, increased reading fluency, and strengthening comprehension. At this stage, the goal is to support children in becoming more automatic and expressive readers.
This pod helps children transition from learning to read into reading with confidence, independence, and a genuine sense of enjoyment.
This final pod of the three ensures children leave with the skills and confidence to read, write, and comprehend at a level aligned with Grades 2–3 in the Saskatchewan Curriculum.
Why pods?
Because Literacy Pods are carefully matched, all new students begin with an Initial Literacy Assessment. At Literacy Pod Tutoring, small-group learning is at the heart of our approach. Carefully matched pods allow children to build confidence, learn alongside peers with similar skill levels, and engage in meaningful discussion while still receiving individualized support from an experienced teacher.
Individual Literacy Support is available when pod placement is unavailable or when one-to-one instruction is recommended. As enrollment grows, priority will be given to placement within a Literacy Pod whenever appropriate.
When 1:1 Might Be a Better Fit
While Literacy Pods are at the heart of our approach, we recognize that a small group may not be the best fit for every learner right away.
Some children need more freedom to move, vocalize, regulate, or simply take up space while they learn. For others, individual support may allow us to better meet sensory, regulation, attention, or safety needs without asking the child to constantly adjust themselves for the group.
1:1 support may be recommended following an assessment and conversation with families. Our goal is not necessarily to keep a child in 1:1 tutoring long term, but to choose the setting where they can feel comfortable, safe, and ready to learn. When appropriate, this may also provide a pathway toward joining a Literacy Pod in the future.
Scheduling
Literacy Pod sessions are offered during daytime and early afternoon hours, with regular weekly or twice weekly scheduling available.
Our current session times are:
Monday to Wednesday
Afternoon sessions available from 12:15–3:45 PM
Friday
Morning and afternoon sessions available from 10:00 AM–3:45 PM
Sessions are one hour, with start times varying by tutor and pod placement. Specific session times are provided when arranging your child's schedule.
Families choose a consistent weekly schedule based on availability and pod placement. Pod placement and recommended frequency are determined following your child’s initial literacy assessment.
